Mangaluru, Sep 7: The Mangaluru CCB Police have arrested three persons accused in chain snatching incidents that occurred in the city during the last month.
The arrested persons are Jagadish Shetty (39) of Moodushedde, Sujit Shetty (40) of Urva Store and Suresh Rai (39) of Paltaadi.
The accused had robbed gold ornaments worth 90 grams and had also stolen 2 scooters and mobile phone handsets totalling worth Rs 5 lac which was seized by the police.
Chain snatching incidents took place on August 14 at Kadri Alvares Road and at Kulshekar Everest Plastic factory road on August 24 and at Rajeevnagar of Shaktinagar on August 25 which were registered by the police. The accused were arrested when they had reached Mangaluru to sell off the gold that they had robbed.
The CCB Police under the leadership of Inspector Mahesh Prasad were involved in the operation.
Among the accused, Jagadish was an auto driver, Sujit Shetty was involved in financing business and Suresh Rai worked as a tempo driver. Sujit Shetty was one of the accused in the triple murder case that rocked Mangaluru city in 2002, according to the police.
