Above average rainfall in TN since June 1


Chennai, Sep 8 (IANS: The regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have received rains more than 90 per cent of what it generally receives since June 1, 2022. This above-average rainfall is the highest in past several years.

The above-average rainfall of 443.7 mm is the highest in past many years. In 1985, during the June-September season the average rainfall was 481.1 mm.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms with mild to moderate rains in some locations of the state in the next 48 hours. Sources in IMD told IANS that the heavy rains were due to a cyclonic circulation in the lower section of the upper atmosphere which is near the region of northern Tamil Nadu.

On Wednesday night received a brief spell of rain and Satyabhama University recorded 15 mm and Tambaram received 15.5 mm rain.

Maximum and Minimum temperatures in Chennai will be in the range of 34-35 degrees Celsius and 26-27 degree Celsius respectively.

Weathermen have predicted heavy to very heavy rains in the next three days in many parts of Tamil Nadu.
