Udupi, Sep 8: Michael D'Souza, a 108-year-old retired soldier and lone DL holder at this age passed away on Thursday, September 8.
He had served in the army for 10 years. He joined the army in the Madras government and served as a mechanic-cum-driver. Michael D'Souza's mother also lived for 108 years. Originally a resident of Ladyhill, Mangaluru, Michael D'Souza lived his retired life at his relative's house in Parkala. After serving in the army for 10 years, he joined the PWD Department. He was involved in concretization of Udupi Car Street, Kulur Bridge built during the British period. Malpe–Kalmady bridge, and few other bridges of Byndoor and undivided DK district. The centenarian was also given a driving license to run a four-wheeler till 2024 by Mangalore RTO. He was ill for the last two days.
He also hoisted the tricolor during the 75th Indian Independence day program organized by the Lions Club Indrali.
Michael D'Souza's wife Elisa D'Souza had passed away nine years ago.
Funeral
Funeral of Michael Dsouza will be held on Monday September 12. The mortal remains will be kept in Parkala house for public viewing from 10 AM to 11 AM. Thereafter mortal remains will be take to Michael D'Souza's house in Ladyhill.
Funeral cortage leaves from Ladyhill House at 3 PM to Urwa church, said sources from the family.
