Kashmir BJP Legislators Apologise for Cross-voting

Jammu, April 20 (IANS) All the 11 BJP legislators in Jammu and Kashmir who were summoned by the party's national leadership to Delhi have tendered an "unqualified apology" for cross-voting during the legislative council elections last week, party sources said Wednesday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators are on their way back to Jammu.

They have been told that the party's parliamentary board would take a final decision on their act of violating the party whip and voting for the National Conference-Congress alliance candidates instead of party nominee Thakur Ranjit Singh in the April 13 elections.

The National Conference won three council seats, the Congress two and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party one. BJP candidate Ranjit Singh polled only four votes in the elections.

According to party sources, the legislators admitted that they had committed a "political blunder" and violated the party's discipline by voting for the non-BJP candidates".

Party sources said that according to the BJP legislators, this was their "first and last mistake" and they should be forgiven.

All the legislators had met the party's national president Nitin Gadkari Tuesday.

But it is not known as to what action would be taken against the legislators who voted for the ruling coalition candidates.

The BJP leadership has given no indication about the possible action against the legislators.
