Mangalore diocese priest Fr Peter Fernandes passes away at 74

Mangaluru, Sep 10: Fr Peter Fernandes, parish priest of St Sebastian Church, Thokur, Jokatte, passed away on September 10 in Fr Muller Hospital, Kankanady. He was 74.

Fr Fernandes was hospitalised several times recently for health complications. He was last hospitalised on September 8. Due to sudden massive blockage of blood vessel in the lung, he breathed his last. 

Hailing from Pius Nagar, Udupi, Fr Fernandes was born to Casimir and Juvanna Fernandes on August 9, 1948. He was ordained priest for the diocese of Mangalore on May 4, 1978. 

Fr Peter Fernandes served as an assistant parish priest in Cascia, Bantwal and  Madanthyar parishes. He served as parish priest in Ukkinadka, Indubettu, Borimar, Kelarai and Naravi parishes. 

He was also the priest in-charge in Eliapadav and Maniyampare parishes. He served as the estate manager of the diocese for 6 years. 

Funeral Mass and burial service of Fr Peter Fernandes will be held on Monday September 12 at 3.30 pm in St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia.

    Very sad.One side number of priests are declining in the world,second ,existing priests too are lessening everyday ,due to sickness ,old age ,and some are killed by haters.Very sad to know this ....They have also a hard life than any one of us.May Grant him eternal rest.
