Mangalore: Rains Drench District After a Day’s Break

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 21: The late night rains, gale, and lighning that visited the district on Tuesday April 19, left behind a trail of destruction and losses. The rains, after taking a break on Wednesday, have been cooling the district again since early morning on Thursday April 21.

On Tuesday night, Puttur, Beltangady, Bantwal and Mangalore taluk had experienced strong wind and rain. Udupi and Kasargod districts too got good rains during this period. A house in Miyar, Karkala taluk, suffered damages due to lightning. A number of arecanut trees got uprooted in Sullia and Puttur taluks. A large number of sheets covering the roofs were blown away, and a mango tree that fell to the ground at Kenjar near Bajpe resulted in a loss of about a lac rupees. Capsized boats moored at Bengre also resulted in heavy losses to the fishermen. Mescom said it has suffered loss to the tune of Rs 1.55 lac in the form of broken and uprooted electric poles, snapped power lines on account of fallen trees, and damages suffered by transformers on account of lightning, in Bantwal taluk.

Power supply has been playing hide and seek because of rain and wind all over the district. After a sunny day on Wednesday, overcast skies on Wednesday night turned into heavy drizzle since Thursday morning in almost the entire district.

The meteorological department has predicted onset of monsoon in Kerala state on June 1 or earlier. The monsoon this time is expected to be normal, as rains received in the coast may range from 96 to 104 percent, the department said.

Good to see people enjoying the premonsoon showers which brought a big respite from the unbearable heat, but the problem of electricity failure has started and this is very nagging. I think the authorities need to start working on this issue very seriously and make Mangalore an inverter/generator free city like Mumbai!!!!

One stupid thing I am remembering in my school days and now I am repenting for such mistake.

Some Times I use to get wet and go to school so the head master will send back to home and there is No need to have leave note. At that time I was never bothered about study but now I know how much important each day spending in class. Dear Children please do not do such things in your life and I am almost many times cried for such evil mistake. Wear your raincoat or have your umbrella so you as well as your books won’t get wet.
