Udupi: Students seek more employment openings in IT-BT companies in district

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Sep 12: The district which was formed 25 years ago has developed in many sectors. However, many developmental works are still pending.

Kasturba Medical College and Hospital is world renowned in the field of health. Udupi is known as the Kashi of education.

Krishna Math, Ashta Maths, Kollur Mookambika temple, Mandarti, Kamalashile and Hattiangadi temples have contributed to the development of religious tourism in the district. Malpe beach, St Mary’s Island are attracting scores of visitors every year.

The area where the district lags behind is the technology sector. Every year thousands of students of the district complete their BE, Diploma, degree and post-graduation. However, they are not getting placement in the district. For the same reason talent is going out of the district.

There are a handful of IT-BT companies at Manipal and Udupi. But jobs are hard to come by. So the younger generation is leaving for places like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Due to migration, youth power is getting scarce in the district.

Administration failure is the main reason for not attracting IT-BT companies in the district. The required area of land is not available. CRZ and deemed forest areas of the district are also contributing factors for the IT-BT companies to shy away from the district.

Youngsters say that construction of an airport and better connecting road facilities to metros like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad are needed. Decades ago there was a proposal to construct an airport at Byndoor. But the project ended in the dust bin as the years passed by.
