Bantwal, Sep 13: Upgraded government higher primary school of Mittur near Vittal in the taluk bought a school bus from the revenue it earned through the sale of arecanut grown on its land.
This school which has the history of 112 years, has four acres of land. In 2017, SDMC, teachers and villagers planted 628 saplings of arecanut. Now they are getting the yield. The farm of school is outsourced. The school gets Rs 2.50 lac income yearly.
A 26-seater bus is bought for the school to bring students to school. Maintenance of the bus will be managed by SDMC from the income of arecanut farm itself.
MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor flagged off the bus service recently. He appreciated the efforts of villagers, school teachers and SDMC. Matandoor also said that one additional room is sanctioned for the school and concrete road will be constructed in coming days.
