Hegde Reconsidering Decision to be on Lok Pal Bill Panel

Bangalore, Apr 21 (PTI): Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde today said he was reconsidering his decision to be on the joint drafting committee on Lokpal Bill, apparently upset over the vilification campaign against the anti-graft panel.

"I will be first discussing the issue with my colleagues and will take a decision based on it", Hegde, who had reluctantly agreed to be on the Lokpal committee due to pending work, told PTI.

The former Supreme Court Judge, known for his vigorous campaign against corruption, said the current vilification campaign had put him off.

"Everything stinks," he said referring to "the manner in which the vilification campaign first went against (Anna)Hazare, then against Bhushans (Shanti and son Prasant)."

Hegde, who is due to retire in August as Lokayukta, said, "The anti-corruption crusade has unnerved some sections. Nobody expected Hazare to get the response he did," he said.

"There is no doubt there is an attempt to derail the anti-corruption crusade," Hegde, whose name was initially suggested along with that of former Supreme Court Chief Justice J S Verma to be the panel head by Hazare, said.

Responding to allegations that he was only taking action against others and not against Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is facing allegations of corruption, he said, "There is no one who has fought Yeddyurappa, the way I have. My hands are tied, yet I have taken action, issued notices, sought explanation."

"If I was not interested I would have transferred the case to the commission," he said. The government has set up a commission of inquiry to probe alleged land scams involving Yeddyurappa and his family.

Asked about his opinion on the Bhushans continuing to be on the panel in the wake of allegations against them and the CD controversy, he said, "I leave it to them."

He said there were two opinions about the genuineness of the CD, "hence it was difficult to comment."

He also wondered as to why the controversial CD was not brought to public notice before.

"What is the point of time this controversy has actually taken place and the time when this has been released to the press? What is the objective of this?", he asked.

Honorable Mr. Hegde, please don't resign from your post because you are the only hope for India. Please don't get worked up. Be rest assured that whole country is with you barring the corrupt.

You know, I know and the whole country too knows that the ruling party has no political will to pass the anti-graft bill because they will be in soup. Their strategy is that Sonia Gandhi assuring false support to get a clean image in the eyes of public and letting loose her crooks such as Digvijay Singh, Amar Singh, Maneesh Tiwari, Sibal...to anyhow derail the attempts of Anna Hazare and team.

Sir, I am ready to come to the road even for a 60 days in case of need. Please don't resign.

Hegde does not get hurt when BJP calls him congress agent and much more. Handicapped and annoyed with his limited power prosecuting BJP politicians, he offers to resign but reverts back sighting Advani's advise. If Moily tells he should do much more with the powers that is already there with him. That becomes an offesnse. If D.Singh, tells him karnataka is known for corruption and he need to do much more. That again becomes offense. I don't find any wrong if political parties do question his character because that is their job. If he is true to his convictions, these issues become silly. He need to learn that from Anna Hazare.

The words are improper if they are spoken by a former chief justice of supreme court. "There is no one who has fought Yeddyurappa, the way I have. My hands are tied, yet I have taken action, issued notices, sought explanation.".How come a Ombudsman uses these lines in his statements. If his hands are tied then how he can function by becoming a part of lok pal bill panel?

Be it Digvijay, Kapil Sibal or Manish Tewari - they are all part of the Conspiracy. It had been already decided to derail the JanLokapal bill by the highest decision maker of the UPA. It could be smelled in the sudden acceptance of Anna Hazare's demands and the subsequent U turns by Sibal & Co...
Digvijay is used as mouthpiece of the Gandhi family- be it Sonia or Rahul. If his utterances click, credit to the madam or else blame to him. The two Singhs of MP- Arjun and Diggi stoop down to any level to please their boss.
Santhosh Hegde need not be so much emotional/sentimental, that too for comments from the likes of Diggy...

Seeing and reading the dramas, I dont think politicians want anti- corruption bill because that is their bread basket. They will fight until they succeed. Mr. Hegde dont succumb to these dirty politicians. India is so corrupt because of Indias dirty politicins. They thrive on corruption and any body comes in their way they will be seal campaigned. The only aim is to derail the LOk pal bill because this is going to be an anti-cancer bill.

All political Party leadrs irrespctive of party affiliations united together to derail the drafting committee's effort to bring about comprahensive and effctive anti- corruption Bill. The reactions of Adwani,Digvijay singh,Kapil sibl and Amar Singh plus 'BABA' .........makes us to feel the insecurity and scarness of those leaders. The exception so far is Sonia Gandhi. In a letter to Anna Hazare, assured and support in all available ways to get this ANTI CORRUPTION BILL passed in the Lokasabha and Rajya Sabha.

Mr Hegde, if you are have second thought on the association with drafting of Anna Hazare's anti corruption Bill, certainly it could be a setback and we are with you very much to reconsider your decision.
