Seven Die in Brazil Plane Crash


Sao Paulo, Apr 22 (IANS/EFE): At least seven people died Thursday after the small plane in which they were flying crashed shortly after takeoff in the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, authorities said.

The plane belonging to the air-taxi company Amazonaves went down before reaching cruising altitude. It had taken off from Manaus' Eduardo Gomes International Airport, according to a company executive cited by the official Agencia Brasil news service.

The causes of the crash, which left no survivors, have not yet been determined, but aviation authorities said that weather conditions were good at the time of the accident.

The aircraft, a twin-engine Seneca PA 34, was headed for the city of Santarem in the neighbouring state of Para.
