2,000-year-old Vessels Found in Sri Lanka


Colombo, Apr 22 (IANS): Parts of ancient vessels, dating back 2,000 years, have been discovered in Sri Lanka, an official said.

Sri Lanka's National Archaeological Department found the artefacts in the southern coastal belt when a team was conducting a marine archaeological survey, archaeologist Sanath Karunarathne was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

He said they also found the wreckage of a very ancient ship close to the Godavaya port in Hambantota district.

A stone bench with an ancient inscription was also found.
