Mangalore, Jun 12: The city of Mangalore on Thursday June 12 got its largest multiplex with the launch of PVR’s first multiplex at the newly-opened Forum Fiza Mall in Padeshwar.

PVR Cinemas marks its debut in the coastal city with the launch of its six-screen multiplex developed by the Prestige Mangalore Retail ventures Pvt Ltd.

Speaking to the media, Rajendra Singh, chief of operations, South India, said six big multiplex screens have been opened in Mangalore. "PVR brings you the best movie watching experience of international standards. As an introductory offer, the ticket is priced at Rs 80 for silver and Rs 150 for topper class, on all days and all shows. This offer will be valid for a month and the next rates will be announced later," he said.

"As in other PVR cinemas in the country, we would like to hold festivals here as well, as per the direction and approval of the top management. We will take feedbacks from the clients for better service and improvements. With regard to bookings, in the northern regions, 25% is online booking and in the south, it is around 40 to 45 percent," he added.

"We are planning to open cinemas in Udupi and Mysore as well. In Udupi, the location is not yet finalized, but in Mysore we have four screens with a total capacity of 1,100 seat. For the time being, we do not charge extra for 3D glasses," he said.

The launch has been strategically planned to cater to the requirements of not only the city’s population, but also to attract cinema lovers from nearby cities of Udupi, Manipal and Karwar.

Spread across an area of 38,000 sq ft, the mainstream property accommodates 1,169 seats. As PVR expands its operations pan India, this launch takes PVR’s screen count to 427 in 98 cinemas in 42 cities in the country.

Only 4 people for the ribbon cutting/opening ceremony??? Very poor marketing and that too from a show-biz enterprise! Couldn't you gather a few hundred guys at least for the photo/news? Clearly something is lacking in popularizing this new spot... way to go gentlemen!

Mangalore is becoming famous for the number of malls springing up for its size of population. Mangalore does not have the floating population of Bangalore. I really wonder as to the economics of building such magnificent malls in mangalore.

Dear PPP, who cares about whether people are coming to watch movie or not. Investor/ Owners want to convert their black money in to white. That's all. Visitors will get free AC to roam and some freshness to their eyes!!!!.

The promoters have spent a fortune. Does Mangalore really need so many malls. Most of the people visiting are 'window shoppers' and 'students'. Mangalore lacks the floating population that Bangalore has.

Can Mangalore absorb so many malls ? 90% of the people come for 'window shopping'.Another 5% ( College students ) come to meet one another as the mall is fully air conditioned.
