Udupi, Feb 2: Rajeshwari Shetty, main accused in the case of NRI entrepreneur, Bhaskar Shetty's murder, and her son, Navneet, who also is an accused, have approached the state high court seeking bail in this case.

When the case came up for hearing before the single judge bench of Justice S C Dinesh Kumar, on Wednesday February 1, the bench conducted the hearing for sometime before adjourning the hearing to February 13.

The district court here had turned down the bail petitions filed by Rajeshwari Shetty and others on December 28, 2016, after hearing arguments and observing that evidences furnished by the police suggested that prima facie the accused were involved with this crime. It had further said that it was not in favour of granting bail at this stage as investigation is in progress.

After Gulabi Shetty, mother of Bhaskar Shetty, filed missing complaint of her son, it was found that Bhaskar had been murdered. During further investigation, the police found pieces of evidence to suggest that Rajeshwari, Navneet, and Niranjan Bhat had executed the murder.

Shantaram Shetty, an advocate from Mangaluru, had been appointed as special public prosecutor by the government to handle this case, but Rajeshwari had objected to this appointment. The state high court has issued interim stay on this appointment.

Rajeswari is the wife of murdered Bhasker Shetty.
