Sharad Pawar slams PM: We are using mobiles because of Rajiv Gandhi, what has Modi done?

Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, Apr 7: PM Modi targets Gandhi family to distract the electorate and hide is own failure, alleged Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday April 7.

Speaking to Congress and NCP workers at party headquarters in Pune, Pawar lashed out at PM Modi and said that the latter had done nothing in last five years. "Because of Rajiv Gandhi's telecom revolution, millions of Indians are using mobile phones today. It was due to Congress that technology brought change into lives of millions of Indians. Forget ushering in a new tech revolution, PM Modi can't even protect our country," he said.

Pawar who has formed an alliance with the Congress against the NDA in Maharashtra for Lok Sabha elections, said, "If workers from both the parties decide from the bottom of their heart and meet citizens at their doorstep, the alliance will defeat the NDA.

Blaming Modi government's policy for farmer suicides in the state, Pawar, a former Union Agriculture Minister alleged that over 18,000 farmers committed suicide in the last 4 years. The "anti-farmer" policies of Modi government are responsible for destroying the lives of thousands of farmers, he added.

Tearing into the BJP on the issue of defence and demonetisation Pawar recalled Modi's statement made during PM Manmohan Singh's tenure. "Modi had promised to eliminate 10 Pakistani soldiers for each Indian soldier killed. But unfortunately 693 Indian soldiers died at the border during incidents of ceasefire violations from Pakistan," he added.

PM Modi is responsible for 100 ATM deaths in Maharashtra due to demonetisation. Also 15 lakh youths lost their jobs because of demonetisation and promise of creating 2 crore jobs each year fell flat, he alleged.

Defeating BJP is a national responsibility of the Opposition, he said appealing Congress and the NCP to bring about the change.

What has Modi done or given to the nation? Only looted the nation. Gone on a number of foreign trips sponsored by the tax payers money. Given only bag full of jumlas. Also given a number of slogans. Helped the cronies in the country and a few helped them to run away.

My big salute and hats off to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar for your wonderful speech which were nothing but the facts what was done the earlier government especially during Nehru, Gandhi and others. These were the people who built this country but unfortunately somebody else is trying their best to take credit. It is a shame.

it's worth recalling that the BJP's precursor, Jana Sangh, opposed the adoption in 1957 of the metric system and decimal coinage by the Indian govt
Liberalisation of India’s telecom sector started in 1984 when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi provided government assistance to Sam Pitroda to set up the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) to develop indigenous digital switches.
The seed for the information technology (IT) revolution was also planted during Rajiv Gandhi’s time. The government removed controls on computers and allowed the import of fully assembled motherboards with processors which led to a reduction in the prices of computers. Then, in 1995, the then public sector monopoly Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited launched India’s first internet service for public access.
Liberalisation has helped India increase its overall teledensity (number of telephone connections for every 100 individuals living within an area) from 2.33 percent in 1998 to 74.5 percent in 2014. The mobile subscriber base had grown from 0.88 million in 1998 to 933 million in 2014,

Without an iota of doubt, what Sharad Pawar says is absolutely true. The seeds of liberalisation were sown by the late Rajiv Gandhi and it was Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh who took it forward. During the 1970s and the 1980s or even before that, people in India used to yearn to own foreign made goods be it transistors, watches or television sets. There were very few companies in India capable of producing good quality electronic materials due to which there was huge demand for foreign made electronic goods. Whenever a person used to land on holiday from the Gulf, his house would be inundated with people from the vicinity anxious to know what he had to sell. Gulf returnees would make a handsome profit from such goods imported into India whenever they used to come on holidays. Things took a dramatic turn once Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister and thanks to his policies, India started producing quality materials at affordable prices. This policy received a boost from Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh and what we are enjoying today is completely on account of the economic liberalisation introduced by these forward looking people. If we are tasting foreign made chocolates in India today, the credit for this should entirely go to Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh. It is they who are instrumental in bringing about a sea change in the way Indians are living today. Nobody else can claim credit for that. Sharad Pawar is not off the mark when he asks, what has Modi done. Other than getting his salary from the government of India and helping his Gujju friends - at the cost of the nation -, it is tough to come across something worthwhile he has done for the country.

@D. Shetty, Mangalore, Yes, we all know you can't make a list what Modi has done till now for the countries development. Answer is with you. We could see all the chowkidar brigade are standing at the Indian Border safeguarding our country in place of our soldiers. The word Patriotism doesn't suit you people D. Shetty. We have seen the saffron brigades patriotism. You and your feku leader has only few things to fool the brainless bhakths like you, that is fake Patriotism, Hindutva, Surgical strike, Ram Mandir. Other than this does your leader has anything to say ?
It is good to be a supporter of a particular party, but don't be so dumb and blind not to accept what has been done and developed for the betterment of the country and its people by any previous government.

I wish I was there, Bahrain — you wouldn't be using a computer and typing this if it were not for the introduction of television by Indira Gandhi and IT and computers by Rajiv Gandhi besides the several infrastructural development projects introduced by the Congress ever since independence that has made India what it is today! What has been Modi's contribution — sub-zero — he's only been taking credit for the works initiated by the Congress govt!

Modi has 'zero' vison for India! "Modi has campaigned more and governed less, strategised on elections more than for the country, rules more and administers less, promised more and performed less, spoke more and heard less, ranted more and felt less, advised more and solved less. Pulwama, DeMo etc. could have been prevented if he indeed kept India first in his heart and head. He is more of a short term trader counting his pennies every night than a Warren Buffet investing for future to create wealth. He thinks like a hedge fund meant for Saudi Arabia than a growth fund designed for India.!!! OUT with Modi"!!!
