Mangaluru, Aug 27: The work of clearance of mud and debris which have got deposited on the railway tracks near Kulshekhar on account of landslide between Mangalore Junction and Suratkal railway station could not be completed on Monday. Therefore, trains could not move on this stretch as planned on Monday.

The railway had announced that Kochuveli - Porbandar and Ernakulam - Ajmer trains would run on these tracks on Monday. But on account of fresh landslide on Monday, these trains were diverted to alternative routes. The August 26 Thiruvananthapuram - Veraval weekly express train moved via Shoranur and Jolarpettai stations on Monday.

The movement of intercity Magaluru - Margao and passenger trains were cancelled on Tuesday too. The Demu train from Margao train will cut short its run at Suratkal station instead of the city station and return from there.

A railway release said that Mangaluru Central - Kurla Matsyagandha Express and Mangaluru Junction - CST express trains will also return from Suratkal.

It appears that, southern railway is using this opportunity to complete the pending work of track doubling between Mangalore Jn and Kulashekhar on the MAJN-Jakote-Thokkur section. Atleast Matsyagandha, Mumbai Super-fast, Madgaon DEMU etc could have been run upto Jakote station (near Mangalore Airport) instead of Surathkal.

Poor supervision of railway officer. It is high time there should be double track of konkan railway from mangalore to Roha or Mangalore to Goa. It is wake up call for all the politician elected by the people to come out to have double track and electricification of railway on this route. The railway officer has to plan out how to avoid the landsilde on track since we have latest equipment to cope up with the landslide.
