Dubai: Millionaire Gokulam Gopalan's son in UAE jail for forging documents

Dubai, Aug 28 (IANS): Byju Gopalan, son of business honcho Gokulam Gopalan, is presently lodged in a United Arab Emirates (UAE) jail for forging documents.

Gopalan senior, is a millionaire with huge interests in chit funds, owns hospitals, hotels, jewellery shops, and is a leading producer and distributor in the South Indian film industry.

His arrested son has business interests in the UAE. The UAE authorities enforced a travel ban on him in a cheque dishonour case after which he is unable to travel out of the Emirates.

Two weeks back, however, Byju Gopalan was caught by officials at the Oman-UAE border when he was trying to leave the country by road.

With the immigration officials finding his documents to be suspect, he was taken into custody by the Oman Police and was handed over to the UAE authorities. He is now lodged in a jail in Al-Ain city.

Gopalan senior is now in the UAE trying to secure bail for his son.

This development comes at a time when Gokulam Gopalan's business rival Vellapally Natesan's son, Tushar Vellapally, is also facing a travel ban in the UAE in a cheque dishonour case. He is currently out of jail on bail.

This country is also under lots of financial strain the details of which are not published; big scams by organised crime syndicates are going on! Recently a number of rice exporters were duped by a rogue co there: Read news report below:

“What is at stake here are not some small packets but nearly 250 rice shipping containers measuring 20 X 8 feet each. Put end to end they could occupy a football field,” says an exasperated Vipin Goel, managing director of Kamla Rice and General Mills in Karnal, a city located in the north Indian state of Haryana.

“So many shipping containers can’t disappear from a warehouse just like that,” Goel reasons.

But vanish they have – not just the containers but also the owner and the entire staff of Dubai’s Al Rawnaq Al Thahbhi General Trading which ordered around 6,000 tonnes of rice from 20 odd exporters in India between March and April this year.

To give you an idea, 6,000 tonnes of rice can feed UAE’s entire population of 9.68 million for almost five days....

Mr. Gopalan should first understand that there is no space for a bit of offence in Arabian land nor he is that much smart like fugitives Malya,Choksi and Modi who left the country dodging incompetent Indian agencies nor he is that much lucky to having the blessings of administration in UAE which can help him to leave the country.

Indian government officials are more interested in catching bike riders without Helmets,Trucks from another states entering even with valid permit ans excise paid bills.
*There is more revenue, each truck has to shell out Rs 8 to 10 thousands in total to enter another state with goods even there is valid road permit and all excise paid bills.
The money collected by a small cops shares till top to bottom according to his rank! is a bitter truth! . (When we checked with a constable some years back he was getting only Rs.75/- day for collecting all these things, rest all every 15-20 minutes one jeep comes and collects from him which I seen my own near trucks are entering from another states)
