Mangaluru: Police had pre-planned swoop on protesters, say Muslim organizations

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 21: Representatives of various Muslim organizations accused the police of unleashing violence during the anti Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in the city on Thursday as per a plan that was conceived by them in advance.

President of Muslim Writers Association Ummer U H, addressing a press meet held at Masjid Ihsan in the city on Friday December 20, claimed that some Muslim youth had planned peaceful protest on Thursday in the city, but the police personnel forced them to agitate by caning them and bursting teargas shells. "By resorting to firing unnecessarily, they claimed two lives. There was no need for the police to fire at the mob. They did everything as per a plan they had thought of in advance," he charged.

Leader of Popular Front of India and advocate Ashraf K Agnadi, said that when prohibitory orders are in force under section 144, if the situation goes out of control, the police have to issue public warning and disperse the crowds. If the situation still goes out of hand, police can cane the protesters below their knees. "The police violated law on Thursday. They overlooked the fact when chasing and beating up protesters that it was closing time for schools and colleges. They chased protesters and also those who were not protesting. They burst teargas shells and fired at the public including the mosque indiscriminately. Two persons lost their lives in this violence, and six persons including former mayor K Ashraf, suffered bullet injuries. As many as 38 were injured in lathi-charge, and all of them are being treated in
private hospitals," he explained.

Ashraf Agnadi claimed that Jaleel from Kanduka was fired at and killed by the police in the presence of his wife. He termed the police version of the violence about the protests like laying seize to Bunder police station, attempt to kill police personnel, injuries suffered by deputy commissioners of police etc as imaginary stories concocted by city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha. He recalled that the police commissioner had invited former city mayor K Ashraf, to advise the people to stay calm and Ashraf obliged by pacifying the agitated protesters. "Jaleel Krishnapura and Mustafa Kempi had accompanied Ashraf and when they were walking on Bunder road, bullets were fired at them. Ashraf was injured in the firing and he is undergoing treatment. In a nutshell, the violence was unleashed and a terror situation was
created in the city by the police in a systematic manner," he stated.

SDPI leader Ashraf Jokatte, alleged that city police commissioner Dr Harsha, has been making false statements about the events which unfolded on Thursday. He accused Dr Harsha of misleading people by claiming that about 7,000 people had mobbed Bunder police station, as a part of systematic conspiracy hatched by him.

Jamaat-e-Islam-e-Hind leader Muhammed Kunhi, also accused the policemen of killing two persons in a systematic manner. He demanded to hold judicial probe into the incident. He also urged the people of the district not to lend an ear to rumours and maintain peace.

Khalid of Hidaya Foundation, Nazeem S S of HIF, and general secretary of SKSM, B S Imtiaz, were present.

    Hello People

Why are we looking only the negatives of NRC and CAA ? Why can’t we look at the positive side of it? Like national security, chasing illegal emigrants and providing justice to the real citizens of India? Also it will be an exercise to go in search of our grandparents to whom we have completely forgotten. Instead of saying I don’t have documents to prove my I citizenship try to obtain one leagally as per Indian constitution . If you still fail to provide the document there are other options . You can go in protest when you run out of option .. today people are protesting without knowing ABCD of the NRC and CAA just because oppositions have started protesting to get political mileage

    Regards

All your organizations should come together and come up with a fund to pay for the losses created to public and private property first. Then, your concerns can be addressed.

You have every right to protest peacefully. If you could not ascertain that before you set out to protest, then you have no right to cry foul about police treatment.

Violence is met with violence only these days, especially when protests turn to vandalism including attempts to burn down police station.

Zero sympathy for you guys. Because you are directly responsible for having created Mangalore into mini-prison and troubling many ordinary citizens of Mangalore.

We can't just blame Police for our stupidity, It's the height of stupidity to gather in a large number when section 144 implemented still..... police announced many times about this but some uneducated/educated fools couldn't understand this & intentionally started throwing stones the same as terrorist sympathizers did in Kashmir. I don't think Muslims of Mangalore did this but some anti-social elements gathered to create this kind of violence & defame them. Many leaders, media , social media misguided & provoked our Muslim brothers by confusing them with NRC of Assam & CAA.

All over India, the protest against CAA and NRC is not religion specific. Everyone are participating.
How come in Mangalore it has become Muslim specific?

Lol, whenever you're brother is beaten up, will u be quiet? You mean to say that they should have kept watching laticharge. How come police can lay section 144 when there was peaceful atmosphere? You mean to say that one must not raise voice against the government. If you do not know keep quiet. The lost lives might be of Muslim, but remember their also human as same as you. You didn't get religion at your birth. After birth you were carried away by this corrupt world with corrupt practices. We don't have values but fight for religion.

section 144 is applied after anticipating trouble, and they were right too.. 7000 such people gathering in congested place like hampnakata is so scary.. alas, you are not impacted and have no heart for the police who lost a leg, another lost a hand or the vehicles torched.. .. how does it mater to you, they are not your family... Stay in that eternal belief that protesters are so well behaved, tax paying, law abiding good citizens, til the time it impacts you one day.. good luck

Its is a problem! Suppose tomorrow they bring on NRC everyone will be asked to prove their Citizenship, not with the simple identity card but through great grandfather's proof of document, Several among us wouldnt be able to prove the same because of the document work not done in the past. Other than Muslims everyone else will be considered citizens of the country through CAA and Muslims will be left stateless.

As said blame game must be stopped and CAA should be withdrawn for good as everyone else will suffer not only muslims. All the detention center that will be built, and the expenses of bringing this act into action will be paid by taxes of the people.

There should be some solution to give citizenship to prosecuted minorities without going against Constitution. As our India is a secular nation and is proud to be biggest democracy in the world.
