Mangalore, Dec 2: The renovated St Rita Church, Cascia, here will be inaugurated by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, at 10.00 am on Sunday December 6. The church was renovated to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations being held this year.
Cascia church was established in the year 1935 under the stewardship of Monsignor F S Fernandes, former assistant parish priest of Rosario Cathedral. The church was dedicated to St Rita, saint of the impossible who is adored worldwide especially in Cascia, Italy. The church came into existence with the inclusion of a few wards from Rosario, Jeppu and Bappal, to serve the local parishioners effectively. Monsignor F S Fernandes served at Cascia parish for 34 years till his death, and his mortal remains were buried inside the church, in honour of his relentless labour and missionary work.
Cascia parish priest, Fr Vincent Menezes, parish council vice-president, Vincent Mendonca, and secretary, Gulobia Tauro, were present at the press meet.
