Sullia, Oct 10: With respect to the murder of Sampath Kumar (35) from Kallugundi near here during the early hours of Thursday October 8 by a gang of masked men with swords and a gun, the police have got information about the assailants. Even though there is information that four of the accused have been taken into custody, the police are yet to confirm this information.
Two teams had been formed under the direct supervision of the district superintendent of police to probe the murder. The police who got information that four young men from Kallugundi area had suddenly disappeared, went there and questioned the family members. It is said that the police visited two houses at Dandakaje and one each in Cooly Shed and Chattekallu.
Some of the missing men have left behind the mobile phones they normally used. The other phones have been switched off. These clues gave clear hints about the accused and also that it was a pre-planned attack.
Many had noticed that a green colour car had moved around Shanthinagara before the murder. On the basis of CCTV footage, the car has been identified as belonging to a resident of Chokkady in Amarapadnoor village. The owner of the car reportedly claimed that a youth from Kallugundi had hired the car on September 30 for the purpose of shooting, and the owner perceived it as film shooting.
There is suspicion that the murder might not be driven by only as a retribution for the murder of Kalagi Balachandra. The accused are identified with the gang led by Sampath Kumar. Even after Kumar came out from the prison on bail, their friendship continued. It is suspected that professional rivalry which developed on account of some incident may be the reason behind this murder.
