Mangaluru, Sep 15: Cyber experts have alerted the general public on fraudsters who receive OTP on the pretext of getting credit card points encased and swindle money from the account.

A stranger who called a doctor of city, when he was on duty at the hospital asked him to encash his credit card points as that day was the last day. He asked the doctor to either encase the points or take gift.

The doctor who believed the caller asked him to encash the points. Later, the doctor informed the caller about the OTP he received on his mobile. The doctor did not get any money into his account. On the contrary, Rs 60,000 was transferred to some other account from the doctor’s account.

The stranger called the doctor the following day from some other mobile number and promised him to pay Rs 60,000 back and asked the doctor to pay Rs 10,000 advance for the same. But the doctor denied.

These kind of fraudsters are called as ‘Cyber Vultures’. They generally call the target individual when he or she is busy. They not only cheat the person but later call from other mobiles and ask the person that they will help in getting the money back to the account and cheat again. This information was shared by cyber expert Dr Ananth Prabhu.

The cyber security personnel have urged public not to share OTP of credit cards under any circumstances with anyone.

Sudden introduction of Digital India without taking consensus from experts, educating the public, without putting in place protective mechanisms knowing the vulnerability of the web, it has become a haven for fraudsters to loot the gullible people, highly qualified professionals included! The chance of recovery of such loot is very miniscule! Scores of senior citizens have been duped of their life's savings, imagine their plight in the twilight years of their life!
