Mangalore, Apr 23: The district administration plans to clean the 43 km-long coastline of Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday May 1 with the help of the public. This distance includes two corporations, three municipalities, and 23 villages.
In a meeting convened by deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav on Friday, it was decided to divide the coastline into five zones for the cleanliness drive. The inauguration will be done at Bengre at 7.00 am on Sunday May 1.

Food and transportation will be provided for volunteers. MRPL has come forward to sponsor the event. The district administration expects 5,000 people to participate in the cleanliness drive, and various groups have been set up for this purpose.
A district-level official and a village-level official will be deputed to each zone to ensure smooth execution of the cleanliness drive. Necessary equipment like baskets (bins), gloves, caps, jute bags, and reusable plastic bags will be given by the corporation to volunteers.
Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma, and Panambur beach development project CEO Yathish Bykampady were present along with other officials.
