Mysuru, Jul 18: In the latest Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 awards, Indore has once again claimed the title of India’s cleanest city. Meanwhile, Mysuru, which once topped the chart, has secured the third position this year.
The awards were presented today at an event held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Representing Mysuru city, Karnataka Urban Development department secretary Deepa Cholan and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif received the award and commendation from the President of India.

Following Indore, Surat secured second place and Navi Mumbai took third. However, in the 3 to 10 lakh population category, Noida was declared the cleanest city, followed by Chandigarh in second and Mysuru again in third place—highlighting the city’s consistent performance in urban cleanliness.
The awards were part of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban initiative, organized by the union ministry of housing and urban affairs. The ranking is conducted annually to encourage cities to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Following the announcement, pourakarmikas (civic workers) in Mysuru celebrated the achievement by distributing sweets at the MCC premises. Expressing their joy, the workers said they had dedicated themselves to the cleanliness drive, often without proper rest or meals. They were pleased that their hard work earned national recognition, though they had hoped for the top spot.
“We are happy with the third place, but our dream is to see Mysuru at number one again. With the continued support of our officials, we are confident we can achieve that,” said one civic worker.
They also urged the government to recruit more workers and provide better facilities to boost morale and improve performance in future surveys.
