Libyan PM Negotiates Ceasefire with Russia

Moscow, April 24 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi held telephone talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the possible ceasefire in the North African country, Libya's official news agency Jana reported.

The conversation between Al-Mahmoudi and Lavrov came after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's troops pulled out of the rebel-held city of Misrata.

Lavrov proposed sending observers to Libya and stepping up a peaceful solution to the conflict.

"Russia stands by the Libyan people," Jana quoted Lavrov as saying.
