Kundapur, Sep 23: The dream of Hattikudru-Basrur bridge is realized at last. Till now people of Hattikudru were dependent on boat to reach Basrur or make a merry-go-round via Kundapur or Mavinakatte. Now they can reach Basrur which is at a stone’s throw by using the bridge.
The bridge is built at a cost of Rs 14.59 crore from Varahi irrigation authority. This bridge is built near Hattikudru Mahaganapati temple from Basuru Mandibagilu. The bridge which is 320 meters long has 18 pillars. It is wide enough for heavy vehicles to move and two apartments are installed at both ends. There is footpath for pedestrians also.
Grant to build the bridge was approved due to the proposal made by the then MLC K Pratapchandra Shetty. Former MLA Appanna Hegde had laid the foundation stone for the bridge two years ago. The work was done by St Antony Construction Company.
Students are the biggest beneficiaries of this bridge. This will be very helpful for students living in Hattikudru, Hattiangadi and Karki to reach to educational institutions in Basrur.
