Mangaluru: Three girls who went missing from private college hostel found

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Sep 24: Three private college girl students, who were missing from the college hostel, were found in Chennai on September 23.

Addressing media on Saturday September 24, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The three girls, one from Chitradurga and two from Bengaluru, went missing from their hostel on September 21. In a CCTV footage, the trio was found walking on the street with luggage. A missing complaint was filed.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar

“The three girls were traced in Chennai. They had travelled in a train to the city as they were disappointed with low marks in exams. They were ashamed to face their parents as they did not live up to theirexpectations. Hence, the students took a decision to leave the hostel. They decided to go to one of the relatives’ house in Chennai.

“The girls did not have mobile phones. They had never travelled like this independently that far earlier. They used the money which was given by their parents for their expenses.

“I urge teachers and parents to keep an eye on students and children who might be disturbed especially the students pursuing PU. There is an institution which does not permit parents to meet students for more than 3 months. Such institutions should permit parents meet their wards at least once a month, so that children will give a positive result,” he said.

Parents who do not have a high IQ expect great things from their children and hope that with the money they invest in their children's education by sending them to private schools and intensive education somehow the children's IQ will surpass theirs and land them in big prestigious universities with scholarships, etc. What a dream! There should be educational counsellors who give the children the right choices, based on their IQ.

If this is possible why parents want to force their wards to go for such coaching classes by paying exhorbitant fees, most even taking loans: "55 Students From Madhya Pradesh's Tribal Zone Of Jhabua Clear IIT-JEE Mains Exam By Ankur Sirothia, TNN Call them the Miracle 55. These many students from Jhabua, a tribal zone with a literacy rate of just 43.3%, have cleared the IIT-JEE Mains this year. Most of them belong to small villages and have to walk several kilometres to reach their government-run schools. Access to a professional coaching institute was not even a dream, it was plain impossible........! Unlike yesteryears, there are a plethora of courses in varied fields which offer great career opportunities with lucrative salaries! Every child is different; depending on their passion and interest the career should be chosen rather than forcing them to go for engineering and medicine, for their satisfaction and to show to the society! Medical education even on a merit seat is so expensive that average middle class parents may not be able to afford even till UG levels!! Please watch the movie "Three idiots" and think....

That was really an unnecessary thing to say If the fear of parents over their low marks is the cause just imagine what kind of life and unreal expectations they were been made to abide to

Parents especially during the 10th and PUC put a lot of pressure on students to score high to get into IIT or a medical college. The children may not be interested to do these courses but under pressure, they agree to do this. So to cater to the parent's needs we have specialized PU Colleges with hostel facilities and a dedicated warden/watchman to see the movements, The studies start at 4 am and end a 12 am. The college wants 100% results with students scoring more than 98%. No other activities are allowed including having food outside the campus even if they want. Parents deposit huge money for these two years and expect the children to do well. We have seen a student doing suicide a few months back in such a hostel as he was not allowed to talk to his parents on his birthday. Again these 3 girls escaped school. Unless local government agencies and police take necessary corrections we will see more students doing this for the greed of their parents and the institutions who admit them

College should give free special classes to week students. All P U colleges should give seats on lottery bases and not on merit. This will create More uniformity and minimise suicide cases. Students will not feel inferior when they see more average students along with them.

Stop blaming schools or colleges. Many people impose on thier kids to become doctors or rocket scientist but kids have interest in becoming a cook or driver etc. it is many parents dictate the kids of thier life. Important to ask the kids first of thier interest in the profession and discuss and let the kid make decision of thier life. Parents role is to guide them and explain what is right and wrong. Because of pressure from parents many kids run away or suicidal thought etc. I came across many my friends kids many Indians have similar examples and this is only creating issues with kids and stop study

Parents wants their children to become engineers or doctors and the pressure gets built on them..comparison within family members children’s, friends and naibhours plays adverse mental effect on these children’s... see the mental strength of growing children’s, help them , support them for a career of their ability and not of family members, friends, naibhours children's.

It is a relief to all of us that young girls are in good shape... Fear and anxiety lead to desperation... Being strict is not always being right... Every living being needs a fair bit of mental space and encouragement... It is necessary to keep young students in regular contact with their parents... Finally school is only the facilitator and parents are final guardians...
