Mangaluru, Sep 26: Karnataka state Wakf board president Shafi Sahadi said, “The state Wakf board has taken up some important decisions that will be implemented.”

Addressing media here on Monday September 26, he said, “The Muslim community has demanded to take back the Wakf property which is encroached by some big guns. The board has been urged to protect the existing Wakf property. Some unseen hands have encroach the Wakf land. We need to take it back.

“Meanwhile, we need to protect the existing Wakf property for which government has sanctioned Rs 70 crore to build the compound wall. The land which was given by Bahamani Sulthans in North Karnataka is not protected.

“In our meeting, we discussed the reason behind the encroachment of Wakf property. It was the failure of our legal cell which has to be strengthened. We had discussions with retired judge and senior lawyers to strengthen our legal cell.

“So far, we have taken back 50% of Wakf property while 25% is still pending to be retrieved.

“The Wakf board under the presidentship of Yusuf in 2020, formed 25 district advisory committees. There has to be smooth functioning between government and Wakf board,” he said.

On Anwar Manampady’s allegations, he said, “Anwar allegations against me are baseless. He has filed a writ petition that I am not a Maulana. I can prove that I have studied for 16 years to become a Maulana.”
