Mangaluru: Obstructing postman on duty - Accused sent to jail, fined

Mangaluru, Sep 30: Sixth JMFC court of the city sentenced accused in the case of obstructing on duty postman to prison and also slapped fine.

Manish, a resident of Matadakani in the city, is the accused who is convicted by the court. On June 16, 2020, Dinesh, postman working for Ashoknagar post office had gone to deliver registered post to the accused. Accused Manish abused the postman, threatened him with life and attacked Dinesh with Iron rod. He also tore the letter and damaged the bike of postman Dinesh causing loss of Rs 13,500.

Barke police station sub inspector Haroon Akhtar had registered a case and submitted charge sheet in the court.

Justice Poojarshree H S sentenced accused Manish to 10 months of simple imprisonment under column 332 of IPC, five months simple imprisonment under column 353 and six months simple imprisonment under column 324. In addition, Manish was slapped a fine of Rs 2,500. If he fails to pay the fine, then he has to undergo another 10 days of simple imprisonment.

Assistant public prosecutor Mohan Kumar argued for the prosecution.

    This is justice delivered too late, too little... What about the trauma and losses undergone by the innocent fellow???... In these type of straight forward cases belongings and property of the accused must be confiscated and victim must be compensated immediately...

    Prakash Manipal,what you are talking of property of accused ?I am sure he doesnt have any .Probably he was facing some problems to pay ,thatswhy notice was sent.Such people always act so when a notice comes to pay ,thinking attacking is the best way.here it is gone simply otherway.
