Panaji, Apr 28:
Goa’s former tourism minister Fransisco Pacheco was on Wednesday April 27 sentenced for one year simple imprisonment for assaulting a junior Engineer with the state electricity department.

Judicial Magistrate First Class in Margao town ordered the imprisonment, which was suspended for the period of 30 days allowing the former minister to appeal in the higher court.

Pacheco, a Nationalist Congress Party legislator, last year has been arrested in connection with death of his lady friend Nadia Torrado.

In the current case, Pacheco had assaulted Junior Engineer Kapil Natekar by calling him in his office on July 16, 2006.

Police in their chargesheet had also stated that Pacheco had threatened the JE with dire consequences.
Pacheco, however, had denied charges against claiming that the allegations were politically motivated.
The former tourism minister has been in news several times including during investigation by central bureau of investigation (CBI) against him for trafficking  humans in the US.
