Udupi, Oct 6: Boat service to the popular tourist destination of Malpe, St Mary’s Island restarted on Wednesday October 5.
"In the wake of many accidents in the island last year, this time, the district administration has given more importance to security. Due to bad weather, the trip to the island was stopped," said Dr Uday Kumar Shetty. commissioner of Udupi City Municipality.
Carrying food items in polythene bags is strictly prohibited by the district administration. Tourists are only permitted to bring milk bottles and other items for the use of young children. Alcohol consumption and smoking is also forbidden.
Seven selfie points have been created for tourists to take pictures safely. Boards and caution flags have been installed at 5 dangerous locations. A 110 metre-long and 100 metre-width safe swimming zone has been created in the north and east sides of the island. Swimming is permitted only in those two areas. Four watchtowers have been built and the tourists will be observed by the lifeguards. Speedboat facility is available that takes the tourist to the island from Malpe beach.
