Puttur: Villagers fight against all odds, build bus stand at Bannur

Puttur, Oct 8: When one family of the village objected to building bus stand saying that it will obstruct their land, the whole village took it as challenge and build the same at Daarandakukku village under Bannur gram panchayat limits.

The villagers of Daarandakukku were demanding for a bus shelter for the past two decades. The villagers were facing problem during rainy as well as summer season as they did not have a shelter to wait for the bus.

Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor got Rs five lac for building the bus stand. The villagers were also ready to pool in some help. However, a family objected for the construction of the bus stand saying that it will obstruct their land. The villagers, who were aware that their dream of bus stand will be shattered again, took this as a challenge.

All the villages got together and built the bus stand in the identified land and got the same inaugurated on Vijayadashami day.

Bannur gram panchayat president Jaya said that the work of bus stand was carried out as per the demand of the villagers. In coming days, drinking water facility will be provided in the bus stand.

The president also said that by building bus stand at Daarandakukku junction there was no issue to any individual. Only certain people for their benefit prevented panchayat members and officers from building the bus stand. But now due to the unity of the villagers, the work is over and the bus stand is handed over to the public for use.
