Udupi, Oct 13: The Brahmavar Foundation (R) staged a protest demanding the use of unused land of Akashvani centre, Brahmavar for the taluk headquarters government offices.
Speaking at a press conference B Govindraj Hegde, managing trustee, Brahmavar Foundation said, “Brahmavar taluk was created in February 2018. As per the latest information, as many as 17 government offices need space for serving the general public. This includes the taluk panchayat office and other offices. There is a need for a well-equipped spacious bus stand, weekly market also. Currently the horticulture department, tahsildar office, circle police office, sub registrar office, government hospital, MESCOM, animal husbandry and women and child development offices are serving in Brahmavar from their own spaces.
To accommodate all these offices in one location Akashvani Brahmavar land will be an ideal choice. Currently Akashvani Brahmavar transmission centre has 21.72 acres of land at its disposal. It is the third transmission station in the state having such a large land area. Only 1.5 acre of land is used by Akashvani Brahmavar transmission station and the rest of the land is left unused. In 2015, two antennas of the transmission station had collapsed and they are not repaired yet. The transmission station can be converted into FM based station requiring less land area for its operations. The additional unused land can be handed over to the state government and government offices complex can be set up in that area” he said.
“I have brought this issue to the notice of the local representatives, MLA, and even have written a letter to the Prime Minister's Office. The transmission capacity of the Brahmavar Akashvani transmission station has now been reduced to 4kw from earlier 20kw after the two antennas collapsed in 2015. It is an ideal choice to convert the station into FM based operations like Akashvani, Mangaluru. Officials including people's representatives should take necessary actions in this regard soon. The newly granted ESI hospital can also be set up in this place. We will hold discussions with the people of Brahmavar taluk and try to create public opinion in this regard,” he added.
B Nagaraj, Myrmadi Sudhakar Shetty, B N Shankar Poojary, Dinesh Nairy, Vishwanath Shetty Matpady and other trust members were present on the occasion.
