Udupi: Mega Convention of Billavas at Katapadi on May 8

Udupi, May 5: Udupi district level mega convention of Billavas will be organized at Lord Vishwanatha Temple in Katapadi on Sunday May 8. This was informed by Ashok Suvarna, chairman of the governing council of the said temple, at a press conference held here on Wednesday May 4. This convention is being organized under the aegis of Brahmasri Narayana Guru Swami Seva Samiti and the temple management.

Billavas from all the taluks in the district will participate in the convention. The organizers expect about 15,000 people to come together for the event. The convention will be presided over by former union minister, B Janardhan Poojary.

State minister for higher education, Dr V S Acharya, will inaugurate the convention. Sri Brahmananda Saraswati Swamiji of Kanyadi Sri Rama Temple, will deliver benedictory address. At the convention, Billava people’s representatives elected as gram panchayat, taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat members, will be honoured. Consultations have already been held with heads of Garodis and Billava organizations functioning in the district in this connection, Suvarna disclosed.

A mega plan to develop the above temple on the lines of Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple is afoot. A blue print and estimate of six crore rupees for the same has been prepared. A Temple Development Committee, of which former MP, Vinay Kumar Sorake has been chosen as the honorary president, and former minister, Vasant V Salian will the president, has been formed, he revealed.

Vasant Salian, zilla panchayat president, Katpadi Shankar Poojary, who is an office bearer of this committee, and several others were present at the press conference.
