Udupi, Oct 18: A Manipal-bound car from Maravanthe hit an electric pole near the Perampalli Sundari gate on Monday night in an accident.

All the people who were inside the car escaped unhurt. But, residents living in the surrounding areas did not have power supply throughout the night.

Locals said the car driver lost control over the vehicle and hit an electric pole and toppled over a couple of times before hitting another pole and came to a halt.

About two or three persons were seated in the car and escaped unhurt. But, the car got mangled due to the impact of the accident, according to preliminary information available.

The mishap happened is said to have occurred in an accident-prone zone and a dangerous one too as there are at least one of two accidents reported at this turning every week. Locals say requests have been made to repair this stretch of the road but so far no work has been done.

As soon as the accident happened, the electric pole got damaged and the power that was supplied from Puttur feeder got stalled.

Mescom officials said power supply was likely to be restored only in the morning as the electric poles have to be replaced.
