Mangaluru: Padma Shri Kanyakumari's violin concert organised by SCS Hospital enthralls audience

Mangaluru, Oct 24: Padma Shri, Sangeeta Kalanidhi A Kanyakumari enthralled the audience gathered to listen to her expert and erudite renditions in a jam-packed town hall on October 22. The programme was organized by SCS Hospital, Mangaluru to commemorate the 120th birth anniversary of its founder Chairman S Chandrashekar.

A Kanyakumari’s absolutely skilful renditions and her mastery in gliding to the higher notes and base notes; her smiling acknowledgements to the many requests by the audience, out of which she conceded to play many requests including ‘Aadisidalu Yashoda’ and ‘Krishna Nee Begane Baro’ covering ragam, tanam and pallavi with unique and unsurpassed sweetness. She blended the ragamalika covering many a distinct raga with mastery, skill, brilliance and a hallmark smile, the perfectly rhythmic accompaniment with nuances and intricacies by Dr Patri Satish Kumar on the mridangam and Trichy K R Kumar delighted the audiences; including the people not well versed in music. Sayee Rakshit blended in his gentle violin notes adding to the beauty of the day and is a student of A Kanyakumari since the past 10 years.

There was not a moment of monotony and it was a great connect between the audience and the artistes throughout. Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V was present along with eminent members of the industry, musicologists and the general public.

Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, CMD, SCS Hospital has been giving scholarships in honour of his father since the past 37 years and following the violin concert, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, distributed the annual scholarships to the deserving students of engineering, medicine, degree and PU students. The programme was very memorable and enjoyed by all members.
