Mangaluru/Udupi: Parts of twin districts receive good rain, house damaged

Mangaluru/Udupi, Nov 6: Heavy rains lashed in Beltangady, Kadaba, Bantwal, Sullia, Puttur, Udupi, Manipal and Karkal on the evening of Saturday. 

In some areas, the rain hampered Tulasi Pooja celebrations also. 

Most parts of Beltangady received more than one hour of rain at around 5.30 pm. Water overflowed on roads and hampered the asphalting work of NH 73 under the limits of Beltangady. Commuters had a tough time due to the overflowing rain water. 

House of former panchayat president of Rayi Gram Panchayat in Bantwal taluk Harish Acharya was completely damaged due to lightning strike on the night of Friday. 

 

Wife, children and parents of Harish Acharya, who were inside the house when the lightning struck escaped unhurt. Heavy rain poured on the night of Friday and lightning struck the tree that was behind the house and entered the building through the wall. All the electrical equipment was burnt. The small children and parents of Harish Acharya are in shock due to the incident. The walls and roof are completely damaged and the house is on the verge of collapse. 

Village accountant Parikshit Shetty did spot inspection.

    Unbelievable! Lightening and the intensity of thunder sends shock waves. That never used to be so terrifying or so intensive during foregone days of 60's.
