Melbourne, May 12 (PTI) Former pacer Craig McDermott was today appointed Australia's bowling coach for a year while former Test opener Justin Langer's reign as the cricket team's assistant coach was extended for another 12 months.
"Cricket Australia today announced that former Australia strike bowler Craig McDermott will join the Australia team as Assistant Coach ? Bowling," CA said in a statement.
"CA has also announced that former Test opener Justin Langer has been re-appointed in the role of Assistant Coach for 12 months."
Cricket Australia General Manager Cricket Michael Brown said the 46-year-old McDermott's credentials and experience made him an ideal choice for the job.
"Craig McDermott, who took 291 wickets in 71 Tests for Australia between 1984 and 1996, was among a strong field of candidates from around the world," Brown said.
McDormett also played 138 ODIs in which he took 203 wickets.
