Mangaluru: Kerosene adulteration in aviation fuel busted, accused escape, vehicles confiscated

Mangaluru, Nov 8: Police and district food department officials raided Bala near Surathkal where kerosene was being mixed with aviation petrol and confiscated petrol worth lac of rupees, two tankers, pick up and other equipment.

Two tankers worth Rs 40 lac, one pick up worth Rs 12 lac, 16,000 litres of ATF petrol worth lac of rupees, drums and one generator were confiscated.

On definite information, the officials and cops raided the spot near Ottekayar bend on Monday November 7 evening and found a secret underground tank. Petrol from two tankers was filled into the underground tank and the tankers were filled with kerosene mixed with other chemicals. The accused escaped from the spot.

Earlier, IGP Sathyanarayana had conducted midnight raid in 2012 and unearthed this adulteration business and put an end to it. However, petrol adulteration is rampant now in surrounding areas of Mangaluru city. Only a few cases are coming to light.

    Never fill at any IOC station in Mangaluru, mostly adulterated. The attendants always hold on to the nozzle lever and play with it, duping the car owners, and then the owners driving big big cars, bwm, adui and all. nowdays filling only MRPL station.

    All of us may not be getting good quality fuel/.There is definitely bad fuel available The raids against adulterated petrol must be pumped up and we must make sure good quality petrol is available for the needy people of Karnataka especially in our area where I feel so much of adulterated petrol is being sold to public

    Aviation Turbine Fuel or ATF is basically kerosene (and not petrol) with treatment of special additives to prevent corrosion, gum formation, build up static electricity and freezing.. and ATF is supplied directly from production facilities to airports. The above mentioned racket seems to be blending normal kerosene with gasoline or petrol.

    I cannot believe! This news may badly impact Aviation business and especially flying out of Mangalore. Now it gives some doubts why & how Indigo & some other Carriers were often encountering trouble? Corruption, malpractices are deep rooted with Indians, especial under BJP rule.

    i am scared to travel by mangalore airpot. every time i travel i smell kerosene smell in the flight. i am travelling in kerosene fuel flight instead of aviation fuel. any time anything can happen mid flight journey. dont these ground staff check aviation fuel percentage parameter during refill of fuel in the flight. adani ki jai.
