Mangaluru, Nov 12: “The BJP's attempts to polarise on the basis of Hindutva is declining. The youths are losing faith in BJP,” said Congress leader Madhu Bangarappa.

He was speaking after holding a meeting with representatives of the Backward Classes Wing at the Congress Bhavan on Saturday November 12.

He said, “The Hindutva wave reached its crescendo after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014. In the year 2018, polarisation politics was at its peak. It has gradually declined from then onwards. BJP workers were against their own leaders following the murder of Praveen Nettaru's murder.

“In Mangaluru, attempts made by the BJP to polarise on the basis of Hindutva is declining, as per surveys. The report stated that Congress will come back to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. If we work unitedly, we can hope to come back to power in the state and this change will happen even in Dakshina Kannada,” he said.

“Communal violence cannot help people get livelihood and so they have become aware that only Congress can feed them," he said.

“Congress has implemented several programmes for backward classes. Congress has given land rights for the backward classes. But, the BJP has done nothing. Good programmes initiated by the Congress have not been continued. Fifty five percent of backward classes have supported the Congress. In Dakshina Kannada there is a tradition of the BJP seeking votes in the name of Hindutva." Madhu Bangarappa said.

“To stop this, Congress plans to hold a district-level backward classes convention in December or in January,” he said.

Speaking on the Surathkal toll gate, Madhu Bangarappa alleged that MP and MLAs are receiving 100% commission and it is not just 40% commission. “If they were not enjoying the benefit, they should have shut this toll plaza. The BJP is harassing the protesters. But, the constitution ensures protection to everyone,” he said.

DCC president Harish Kumar and others were present.
