New York, May 13 (IANS): An Al Qaeda-linked outfit has threatened to take out US President Barack Obama's grandmother in Kenya in retaliation for the US special forces raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.
The threat by Somali group Al Shabaab prompted Kenyan authorities to beef up security around Sarah Onyango, Obama's 89-year-old step-grandmother, the New York Post reported.
"In the wake of security challenges, including terror threats, I can confirm that we decided to enhance security at the home of Mama Sarah," said Kenyan official Francis Mutie.
Although not a blood relative, Sarah is the third wife of Obama's paternal grandfather, and the president often refers to her as "granny".
Bin Laden was killed May 2 in an operation by US Navy SEALs in Abbottabad city near Pakistani capital Islamabad.
