Mangaluru, Nov 13: The Dakshina Kannada SC morcha wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party organised a 'Scheduled Caste Convention' on Sunday, November 13 at Ambedkar Bhavan in Urwa Store here.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister S Angara said, "we are fighting for our rights. But, Dr B R Ambedkar has given us our rights. It is our duty to implement them and it is our responsibility to excel in all fields. Taking a cue from history, it is our duty how we have to implement the rights given to us and be role models to society. Dr B R Ambedkar is being respected because of his contribution to the country."
He also added that more than power, the ideology of the party is more important.
MLC and state president SC Morcha Chalavadi Narayanswamy said, "At present, out of other Morchas of the party SC Morcha is at the top in organising the party. The population of the community is quite high even in North Karnataka, Bengaluru, and other parts of the state."
He said, “The Congress government had conducted a caste census, and though it was a mistake, it helped me. I can say people belonging to the SC community are the highest in number in the state.”
Chalavadi Narayanswamy alleged that Congress had misled Dalits against BJP. He added that Congress had sidelined Dr B R Ambedkar that led to his defeat in elections.
He stated that the Narendra Modi led-BJP government respected Dr B R Ambedkar by constructing his memorials.
"Congress portrayed BJP as anti-Dalits. In reality, Congress has betrayed Dalits. As I had worked for 40 years in Congress I know the reality,” he said.
He also questioned, “Now Mallikarjun Kharge was made Congress president, but why did Congress fail to make him the chief minister of Karnataka?”
He said that the BJP government has introduced several programmes for the welfare of the community.
