Hubballi, Nov 13: The rear tyre of a private bus that was plying from Pune to Mangaluru exploded on Seva Road here late night of Saturday November 12. The sudden fire that erupted in the bus gutted the bus completely. More than 30 passengers in the bus escaped death by a whisker due to the presence of mind of the driver.

The private bus had started from Pune to Mangaluru and reached Karwar toll gate late in the night. Around 1 am, the rear tyre of the bus exploded near Karwar toll gate. This caused electrical short circuit and fire erupted. The driver immediately woke up all passengers in the bus and evacuated them safely.

As the passengers and driver were haplessly looking, the flames engulfed the bus totally. Fire service personnel arrived on the spot and doused the fire with the help of water cannons.

Safety is the biggest concern in long distance busses. Even passengers carry inflamable materials & there is no checking for that.

Hubballi to Karwar national highway is just disgusting, almost 90% of the road is very very bad, always traffic jam & not at all advised travelling by two or four wheelers at any cost. Very bad highway. If travelled in this road with new tyres, next day one more set of tyres needs to be replaced, this is the condition of that NH.
