Beltangady: Home-alone woman tied up, robbed by gang of four

Beltangady, Nov 14: Four masked men entered the house of a home-alone woman on November 12 evening, tied her hands and legs and took away gold ornaments worth lac of rupees.

This dacoity occurred at the house of Prabhavati Naika (67) at her house at Arasikatte near Naravi in the taluk.

The masked men, who barged into the house, stuffed the mouth of victim Prabhavati with cloth and tied her hands and legs with rope and asked her to give all gold to them (Bangaar Poor Korle in Tulu language). They snatched the ear rings and chain from her neck. After searching the house for around half an hour, they left the house and while going said in Tulu “Enklu Bathina Kelasa Aand” (the purpose for which we entered the house is over).

The dacoits took away three gold bangles weighing six sovereign, three golden finger rings weighing 1.5 sovereign, three leaf designed chains weighing five sovereigns and one mobile phone.

The total weight of the stolen gold is said to be 15.25 sovereigns that is worth around Rs 4.60 lac.

Prabhavati does not have children. Her husband was a government employee and died three years ago after retirement. After that the victim woman lives alone. It is suspected that those who know her background very well are involved in the dacoity.

Beltangady circle inspector Shivakumar B and Venur police station sub inspector Sowmya J visited the house and are investigating.
