Bengaluru, Nov 14: When the entire country is celebrating Children’s Day to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar on Monday released a video on the pathetic condition of government schools.

Speaking after releasing the video in Bengaluru on Monday, said the first priority of everybody, especially those in power, must be improvement of the infrastructure facilities in government schools. But the pathetic condition of the government schools is harming the children, he said.

The Education Department has released the latest report of the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE Plus), which reveals the startling fact that the admissions in the government schools have increased but there is shortage of teachers, Shivakumar said and mentioned that it will certainly affect the education of the children.

The KPCC Chief said the total number of schools as per the UDISE Plus report is 76,450, which include 40,679 government schools, 7,110 government aided schools and 19,650 aided schools. The total admissions in all the schools in the entire State is 1.18 crore during the year 2021. It indicates that the number of enrolment of girl students was over 8 lakh during 2021-22.

However, Shivakumar said the number of teachers in government schools has come down from 2.08 lakh to 1.99 lakh according to UDISE Plus report for the year 2020-21.

The KPCC Chief pointed out that out of the total of 2.5 lakh classrooms in all the government schools, 40,000 classrooms require urgent repairs, which is shocking.

Out of the 8,028 government primary schools in the entire Kalyana Karnataka region, as many as 1,234 schools and 4,663 classrooms were in dilapidated conditions, he said releasing details of the sordid state of affairs in different district.

Shivakumar said the Congress party will take up improvement of the government schools will be the first priority of the government after the elections in the 2023 assembly elections.

Mr DKS... Was reading your ' Call Sheet ' or itinerary as scheduled by the law enforcement agencies of our country in most of the newspapers today. Must accept that it's quite a hectic schedule. It's evident that lack of proper grooming and education has lead to this State of yours !! This despite running one the most state of the art and commercialized educational institution in our State Capital !! Why didn't you think of all this when in power??
