Mangaluru, Nov 17: The newly formed, Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association (KUPMA) will be inaugurated in the second week of December.

Addressing media here on Thursday November 17, president of KUPMA, Dr Mohan Alva said, “There are close to 250 unaided PU colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts imparting quality and value based education. For private unaided primary, high school and degree college managements, there are associations. But there has not been any association of the management of unaided PU colleges so far.

“These unaided PU colleges naturally face hurdles in imparting quality education, in human resource management and in many other areas. The hurdles in confusions could also be because of lack of response from the government. Many a times, this institution themselves solves these problems. But being alone it is not possible for institutions to solve the most difficult issues. Hence, with a belief that in unity lies our strength and realizing the need to form an association to discuss issues and to find solutions, a forum of common minds by name Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association has been legally formed,” said Dr Mohan Alva.

Honorary president of the association, Prof MB Puranik said, “An association is much needed for the unaided institutions to coordinate with the government to eradicate confusions. There are few who speak lightly about private institutions that it a business institution so all that confusions has to be cleared. Whenever there is issue pertaining to unaided institution, it cannot be discussed personally to resolve the issue, so the association will be much more effective to resolve the issues.”

Secretary Prof Narendra L Nayak said, “There are several confusions such as regard to examinations. Without consulting with the education experts, exams are announced all of a sudden, when there is pressure it will be postponed every now and then. The government needs to announce about additional batches in the month of February or March for the private unaided college, but till June-July, there will be no clarity which will lead to the confusion. Through association it will help to coordinate and resolve such issues. The association is not limited to the twin districts, but to the entire state.”

The association also demanded that private unaided colleges should also be considered in the every government decisions.

Honorary president KC Naik (founder Shakthi educational institutions), K Radhakrishna Shenoy (president Venkataramana PU College Kundapura), vice president Sudhakar Shetty (president Jnanasudha educational institutions Ajekar Padmagopal education trust Karkala), Yuvaraj Jain (chairman excellent educational institutions Moodbidri), Dr Manjunath Revankar (chairman Suraj PU College), joint secretary Albert Rodrigues (Dandatheertha PU College Uliyargoli Udupi) and treasurer Ramesh Kowdooru (adviser Shakthi educational institutions).
