Mangaluru: Two arrested with processed ganja worth Rs 39 lac

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Two persons were arrested with 132 kg processed ganja worth Rs 39 lac.

The arrested are identified as Rameez Raja from Bantwal and Abdul Haris Khader from Manjeshwar. The duo had brought the ganja from Vishakhapatnam in an SUV bearing registration number KL 14 P 7775.

Addressing media on Friday November 18, police commissioner said, “A case is filed at the CEN police station. The vehicle was intercepted at Mudipu Kayakodi under Konaje police station limits. The accused were ready to distribute the processed ganja among drug peddlers, consumers in part of Kerala, Manipal, Dakshina Kannada and some parts of Uttar Kannada.

“Rameez Raja has 6 cases against him at Konaje, Ullal and Mangaluru north which includes murder attempt, assault and drug peddling while Abdul Khader has four cases in Ullal, Kasargod and Manjeshwar which includes murder attempt, assault and drug peddling.

“During the preliminary probe, it was revealed that the accused had bought the ganja from Vishakhapatnam three-four times in car, fish carrier, and trucks among others.

“A car, ganja, weapons, mobile phone and cash has been recovered from the accused. We have come to know that it is a big network where more people are involved.

“When there is extreme demand, they sell less quantity at a very high price. We will probe the backward and forward links of this case,” he said.
