Puttur: Girl sexually harassed on bus – Co-passengers, conductor hand over accused to police

Puttur, Nov 20: A man who was sexually harassing a girl student in a running bus was handed over to the police with the help of co-passengers and conductor of the bus. This incident occurred at Uppinangady on Saturday November 19.

The KSRTC bus was plying from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. A girl student boarded the bus at Nelyadi. It is gathered that Ashraf (45), a resident of Perne, was sexually harassing her. It is said that the accused asked the girl student to touch his private part.

A shocked girl student brought the matter to the notice of the conductor, who alerted the passengers and caught Ashraf and handed him over to police.

Ashraf is married and has three children. He is a truck driver by profession. Though he tried to escape from the grip of the passengers, the driver and conductor of the bus drove the bus straight to Uppinangady police station and handed him over to the police.

Police informed that the girl student denied filing a complaint as it will hamper her education and future prospects. The police have registered a suo moto case for indecent behaviour at a public place on the accused.

    I determined the accused persons community just by going through the headlines. Noticed few such characters in Mangalore too during past days, who rush to catch the overcrowded buses just to satisfy their ill purpose.
