Mangaluru, Nov 20: Teachers and students play an important role in nation building, said RSS leader and president of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat.

He was speaking to teachers of various schools at Kannada Shala Makkala Habba on the topic ' Kannada Shala Yashoghathe' at the Sanghaniketan premises here on Sunday, November 20.

He stated that he started Kannada medium school in Kalladka in 1980s. Later, in 1987, Shishu Mandira was established.

He also said on RSS Pracharak Na Krishnappa's suggestion he started the school and to provide moral-based education and preserve the culture of this land.

He added that Pracharak used to say that education should not be a business. And, there are good people in the society, with whose help you can start a school.

"So, I decided to build a school which teaches the culture of this land. Then, muslims and Congress had opposed our project, but finally facing every challenge we have been successful in building the school. Even, Akshar Dasoha scheme from Kollur temple was stopped. But, even in this we won," he added.

"Our intention of running the school is to imbibe culture and patriotism among students. As this country is called a secular nation, we are not able to name anything after Rama or Krishna. But, in our school for 72 different divisions we have given names of great personalities of this land. While, students enter the school they begin their day by telling Jai Shriram and while leaving the school they utter the word Rama Rama. The teachers in school are addressed as 'Shriman' and 'Mathaji' instead of Sir and Madam," Bhat said.

He also explained that Kalladka Rama Vidyakendra is practising various practices to preserve the culture of this land.

He also added that teachers should enjoy good rapport with students as it will help in nation building.

President of Sneha Vidhya Samsthe Sulia Chandrashekar Damle also spoke on the occasion.

Registrar (Examination) of Mangalore University P L Dharma coordinated the session.

In an interaction session, the headmaster of a school in Karkala complained of scarcity of staff in Kannada schools. Dr Bhat said in spite of India completing 75 years of Independence the government had failed to provide a good number of teachers to schools. "Shall this be termed as betrayal?", he questioned.
