Mangaluru, Nov 24: Second CJM court of the city sentenced Mohammed Asif Kukkaje, accused of stealing offertory box that was kept on the cash counter of a hotel situated at Bypass road near Kankanady in the city, to one year in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 2000.
Mohammed Asif Kukkaje (28) and Mohmmed Ilyas alias Aliyaar (30) had stolen the offertory box of Kankanady Padumale Kallurti Daivastana that was kept on the cash counter of Isiri hotel on March 15, 2021. The then SI of east police station Jnanashekhar had arrested the accused and recovered Rs 705.50 cash and the box from them and filed a charge sheet in the court.
Justice Madhukara P Bhagavath, in his verdict said that the accusation on Mohammed Asif is proven and sentenced him to one year in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 2000. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he has to undergo additional 10 days of simple imprisonment. Second accused Mohammed Ilyas was acquitted for lack of evidence.
Senior assistant public prosecutor of second CJM court Mohan Kumar B argued for prosecution.
