Chikkamagaluru, Nov 27: The state government has released a grant of Rs 10 crore to prevent the spread of a pest that has attacked the areca plants for taking up preventive measures.
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, who arrived by helicopter at Hariharapura in Chikkamagaluru district on Sunday, told reporters at the helipad that the grant for tackling pest attack on areca plants will provided to Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and other Malnad areas.
The chief minister said the government has sent a team of university to study pest.
Already, a team of experts from the central government has conducted study in Chikkamagaluru.
As the pest spreads from one tree to another due to rain and wind, he said the pesticide will be sprayed for the removal of fungus. All recommendations made by scientists to take preventive steps to check the spreading of the pest will be duly followed by the government.
Replying to a question, Bommai said the government has taken the assault on Mudigere BJP MLA M P Kumaraswamy very seriously and directed the police to provide all facilities and to take up the probe from all angles.
Hospital in Sringeri
Bommai said it has been decided to build a hospital in Sringeri but there is a problem of space. That will be sorted out soon and the hospital project proceeded, he added.
The chief minister opened the BJP Jan Sankalpa Yatre at the Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium in Koppa town of Chikkamagaluru district.
Former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, union minister Shobha Karandlaje, BJP national general secretary C T Ravi, ministers Govind M Karjol and Bhyrati Basavaraj and former minister D N Jeevaraj and others were present.
Vishnuvardhan memorial opening in December
The chief minister, who called on Kannada film actor Late Vishnuvardhan’s wife Bharati in the morning at her newly built house in Jayanagar in Bengaluru in the morning, said the actor’s memorial will be opened before December.
The Vishnuvardhan memorial is under construction in Mysuru.
Bommai said Bharati Vishnuvardhan had personally come and invited him for the house warming function. The house in which Vishnuvardhan had stayed had been beautifully renovated and one can see her hard work and efforts behind this remodelled house.
He said the Vishnuvardhan memorial work will be completed soon and it has been decided to inaugurate it on a grand-scale.
Further details will be finalised after discussing with his family members. Vishnuvardhan was a great actor and the function will be organised according to his stature, Bommai said.
