Kundapur, Nov 29: Champashasti (Hirishasti) festival is being held with fervour and gaiety at Sri Mahalingeshwara and Sri Kalinga (Subramanya) temples of Kalavara in the taluk on November 29. Nagamandala and Tulabhara offering will be held on November 30.
On November 29, Abhisheka, Panchamrita Pooja, Mangalarathi were held from 4 am by Tantri Kota Sri Krishna Somayaji. From 4.30 am Hannukayi, Hoovukayi, Kalasha Samarpane, Karpoora Arati, Darshan of God, Prasada distribution are held. From 7 am Veda chanting is beind done by Ruthvija. Kalashabhiksheka, Mahamangalarati, Sandarshan, Kshetra pradakshine, Pallapooje and Public food serving was done from 12 noon. Ranga Pooja for Sri Mahalingeshwara will be held in the night.
On November 30 morning Halittu Seve, Nagamandalotsava Kattukattale Seve, Tulabhara, Sri Kshethra Pradakshine, Pooja for Shri Kshethrapala, coconut seve to Sri Bhootaraya Swamy, Sandarshana and Kalamiti Yakshagana will be presented by Halady troupe in the night.
Devotees complete their vows taken in the name of Lord Subramanya on the day of Shasti. Devotees offer flowers to Naga Subramanya as it is considered as more pleasing for him. They also offer various shapes of silver to get cure from skin disease, tooth ache, eye disease and joint pains. Devotees believe that if they offer vows and banana to the Lord the Nagadosha gets cleared. In many houses of this area dish made of ash gourd and spinach is consumed on this day.
For religious customs of offering Hannukayi, Hookayi, Kalasha Seve, Mangalarati and vow completion a long queue of devotees was seen from the pond of the temple itself. Thousands of people had food served in the afternoon Annasantarpane.
